Who is Wooden Recorders?

Wooden Recorders was founded and is run by Ted Crawford.

Ted is passionate about and dedicated to all aspects of Wooden Recorder instruments. Having played in a local ensemble of about 10 players named "Tapestry" in Kerikeri for the last 3 years, he knows how hard it can be for independent artists to find a really world class wooden recorder.

He is aware it is really easy for a young budding musician to be 'put off' if he or she has only been given a plastic "Cheepie" to play on.

He decided to showcase a selection of the very best independent wooden recorders when an overseas study appeared, highlighting the results when young players were given a beautiful wooden recorder. It was noted that the instrument was cherished, loved and cared for, and the learning curve dramatically increased, as it was realised what a beautiful sound could be achieved from playing in wood.

A message from Ted... "I hope that you enjoy browsing through the web pages and the instruments that I have personally selected. Each item is carefully chosen, is the top of its field in the World, and is something that I would love to own myself!
"With the overwhelming saturation of electronic musical gadgetry invading every aspect of our lives, there is a definite movement back to the timeless beauty of hand playing with a wooden recorder.
"Playing a wooden recorder may take some of us back to elementary school memories, those times when we were first learning how to read music and we absorbed it all. Now, a few years later, you find yourself yearning to blow into that instrument and give it one more shot. Go to it. Buy the best in wood from me. Form a group! Or join a group! And do it."
